Easy cheesy biscuits
Ingredients
- One hundred twenty grams of all-purpose flour
- One hundred twenty grams of vegetable spread
- One hundred twenty grams of aged cheddar cheese
- Half a teaspoon of ground mustard
Instructions
Step 1
To get started on those delicious easy cheesy biscuits, you'll want to begin by preheating your oven. Set the temperature to 170C if you're using a conventional oven, or 150C if you have a fan-assisted one - and if you're using gas, that's gas mark 5. As your oven is warming up, take a moment to ensure your baking sheet is ready to go, nice and clean. Once your oven is hot, we'll be ready to move on to the next step and get those biscuits mixed and baked to a lovely golden brown.
Step 2
Now it's time to get our hands dirty and mix everything together. To start, make sure you have all your ingredients ready to go in a large mixing bowl. You'll want to add the dry ingredients first, followed by the wet ingredients, and then use your hands to gently combine everything until it forms a cohesive dough - you're looking for a uniform mixture that's just coming together, not overworked. As you mix, you'll start to feel the dough take shape, and you can stop once it's formed a shaggy mass that holds together when you squeeze it gently in your hands.
Step 3
Now it's time to shape your biscuits. To start, lightly flour your work surface to prevent the dough from sticking. You'll want to roll out the dough to about 5mm thickness - think roughly the height of a pencil. As you roll, check the dough regularly to ensure it's even and not too thin, aiming for a uniform thickness that will help your biscuits bake up nicely.
Step 4
Now it's time to get your biscuits in the oven. To do this, gently place them onto a floured baking tray, making sure they have a little room to spread out - you don't want them touching. Pop your tray into a preheated oven at around 400°F (200°C) and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until you see that beautiful golden crust forming and they're crispy on the outside. Keep an eye on them, as the baking time may vary, but when they're done, you'll know it - they'll be lightly browned and firm to the touch.

My Tip
When mixing the dough for these easy cheesy biscuits, be gentle with the margarine to avoid overworking it. This helps the biscuits stay flaky and tender.
Leftovers
Store leftovers in a metal tin to keep the crust crispy, and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to revive that golden crust.
Make It Your Own
Try swapping the mature cheddar for a smoked gouda to add a rich, velvety twist.
