Whiskey Sour

Ingredients

  • Two ounces of bourbon whiskey
  • Three quarters of an ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Three quarters of an ounce of sugar syrup
  • Half of an orange, sliced into a wheel shape
  • A Luxardo maraschino cherry, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1

Before you begin, have your bourbon, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup measured out and ready. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then pour in 2 ounces of bourbon, ¾ ounce of fresh lemon juice, and ¾ ounce of simple syrup. Cover tightly and shake hard for about 20 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels frosty cold to the touch.

Step 2

Now it’s time to get your cocktail into its glass. Rest a Hawthorne strainer (or a slotted spoon, if that’s what you have) over a rocks glass packed with fresh ice, then pour the whiskey sour through it—the strainer catches any stray bits of ice from the shaker. For the garnish, thread a thin half-orange wheel and a maraschino cherry onto a cocktail pick and lay it across the rim. The bright orange and sweet cherry make the drink feel a little extra special, and they’re delicious to snack on as you sip.

My Tip

When shaking the Bourbon mixture, make sure to shake vigorously for the full 20 seconds to combine and chill the ingredients properly. This ensures a smooth whiskey sour.

Leftovers

Store your Whiskey Sour in a glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat by gently swirling the bottle with your hands to chill and serve.

Make It Your Own

Try swapping Bourbon for tequila. Use agave syrup instead of simple syrup for a smoother twist.
