Yacht Club Cocktail
Ingredients
- One ounce of dark rum
- A one-ounce serving of John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum liqueur
- One ounce of Orange Curaçao
- A quarter ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- A quarter ounce of juice from fresh limes
- A quantity of ice
- A lemon peel cut into the shape of a sail, to be used as a garnish
Instructions
Step 1
To get started with our Yacht Club Cocktail, you'll want to chill your coupe glass in the freezer until it's nice and frosty. Simply place the glass in the freezer about 30 minutes to an hour before you're ready to serve, or until you see a thin layer of condensation form on the outside of the glass. As you wait for your glass to chill, you can begin preparing the rest of the ingredients for your cocktail. Once your glass is frosty and you're ready to move on, you can remove it from the freezer and it's ready for the next step.
Step 2
Now it's time to bring all the flavors together for your Yacht Club Cocktail. To start, grab your cocktail shaker and add the rum, Falernum, Curaçao, lemon juice, and lime juice - make sure to measure these ingredients carefully so your drink turns out balanced. Next, fill the shaker with ice, making sure to leave a little room at the top. Then, cover the shaker and give it a good, vigorous shake for about 20 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker starts to frost up - you'll know it's ready when you see the frost forming and feel the shaker getting nice and cold in your hands.
Step 3
Now it's time to bring your Yacht Club Cocktail together. To start, grab a Hawthorne strainer and carefully strain the mixed cocktail into the prepared glass you've chilled in the freezer. As you pour, make sure to hold back the ice with the strainer, so your drink stays crisp and clear. Next, take a lemon peel and gently rub it around the rim of the glass to release its oils, then twist it over the drink to release a bit more citrus flavor before placing it on the edge of the glass as a garnish.

My Tip
When shaking the Yacht Club Cocktail, make sure to shake vigorously for the full 20 seconds to fully incorporate the Velvet Falernum. This will help bring out its unique spice flavors.
Leftovers
To store leftovers of your Yacht Club Cocktail, keep it in a glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat by gently stirring over ice.
Make It Your Own
Try swapping the Dark rum for Coconut rum to add a richer, creamier flavor.
