ChatGPT Work Upgrade: Technical Overview & Industry Impact
I tried out ChatGPT Work last week and immediately ran into a problem: I couldn’t figure out what it actually was. Not whether it worked—it clearly does—but what the hell it’s supposed to be. Is it an AI assistant that happens to have a browser? A remote-controlled computer you can summon with natural language? Some kind of hybrid where the assistant and the browser are constantly switching places? That confusion might be intentional. OpenAI certainly isn’t helping by calling it “ChatGPT Work” like it’s a single product instead of three visibly different things jammed together. There’s the desktop app that feels like a regular chatbot with a browser tab bolted on. There’s the cloud version that runs in a real Chrome instance somewhere, capable of filling out forms and taking screenshots.
